Millions of Americans pound their head against the wall trying to lose weight because they're looking for answers in all the wrong places. Ask anyone attempting a weight loss program and they will most likely tell you that diet is the most important factor that will determine their success. Most diets are a waste of time because people fail to realize that the battle with weight is fought in the mind, not the stomach. If your mind is not ready and willing to make the changes necessary to overcome your weight issue, it doesn't matter what diet you choose. Failure is inevitable. Countless failed attempts at losing weight are made by good and honest people because they don't understand the true nature of the problem. Then again, with the thousands of books available that place the entire focus of losing weight on diet alone, is it any wonder that people are so confused? We as a society are obsessed with diets yet we're as fat as ever. We agonize over every detail of how we eat yet our obesity problem only gets worse. It seems like the more we focus on food, the farther away from the solution we get. It's time for a different approach altogether. What's needed is a revolution of sorts. The revolution that needs to take place to beat a weight problem is an internal one. It's an inside job. Unless there is a significant internal change that takes place between the ears, it doesn't matter what diet approach is chosen. It will all be a waste of time. What makes things even worse though is that with each repeated diet failure, our self-esteem and confidence sinks further and further. Each subsequent diet attempt is less likely to succeed than the one before it because with each failure, it is reinforced in the mind that this is an unbeatable challenge. The first step in beating your weight issue is to make a decision to stop dieting. Just quit. Decide that you will not even attempt another diet until you start looking inside. It's not about trying to manufacture motivation to get you going on your next attempt but rather it's about looking inside and growing. Realize that when you get to the point where your heart and soul are in total agreement with your head that you want to be fit and at your ideal weight, your success is guaranteed. In fact, it's only when your heart, soul and head are in agreement that it will even be possible for you to succeed. Once the internal barriers to losing weight are found and acknowledged, only then should any consideration be given to what type of diet to try. Focusing on diet before getting your mind ready is putting the cart before the horse and will guarantee another diet failure.
